I caved and bought a Wii. My mind is already spinning at how much money I'm eventually going to spend on it.
Ugh. Hopefully I will at least have fun. I found a copy of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for GC for $30. So I just need to get a gamecube controller and a memory card and I'm set.

To be honest, unless you want to buy a bunch of games on Virtual Console, you probably won't spend too much money on the Wii. Good luck finding a Gamecube controller!
They still sell a lot of 3rd party Gamecube controllers; I guess Nintendo has quit making them for the most part. I wonder why they haven't made one that's for the Wii yet. Actually, do the classic controllers work with the GC games?
There are a couple Virtual Console/WiiWare games I want to get; namely World of Goo. But not a lot.
After an extensive, 30-second test, no, you can't use the classic controller for GC games. I think you can still get the platinum GC controller on Amazon.
I accidentally bought a generic controller off an Amazon merchant, who was selling this Chinese-made stuff on the real Nintendo-made stuff page. But I'll deal.
I also bought a generic memory card, so I'm all set.
I think the GC controller will work for Virtual Console games, but I'm not sure. You can test that configuration out for me ahead of time too if you want! ;)
I've been thinking about getting Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem too. . . .doesn't make much sense to just have one game using the memory card. . . .
Thanks for testing your classic controller out for me!
You'll love this. All Virtual Console games from Nintendo's systems can be played with the GameCube controller. Compatibility with games from other systems (Genesis, TG-16, etc.) varies. I just got a classic controller for Virtual Console to avoid the headaches.
